Lesson 5 of 9
Build a Simple Website That Gets Calls
You do not need fifty pages. You need one fast page that works on a phone and makes calling you easy.
Most local customers will see your site on a phone. Google agrees. It uses the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking. So build for the phone first and check the desktop second.
What the First Screen Needs
- What you do and where, in one line
- A tap to call button
- Proof, like your review count or a real photo of your work
Speed Matters
Google's Core Web Vitals set the bar. The main content should load within 2.5 seconds. The page should respond to a tap in under 200 milliseconds. And things should not jump around while it loads, a layout shift score under 0.1.
Tell Google Who You Are
Add your business details as structured data. Google's guide says to include the country code and area code in your phone number. Then add your site to Google Search Console. It is free, and it shows which searches bring people to you.
Keep Mobile and Desktop the Same
Google tells site owners to make sure the mobile site has the same content as the desktop site. Do not hide your services list on phones to save space.
