Lesson 8 of 9
Follow Up With Texts and Emails, Legally
Follow-up wins repeat business. Get consent first, make opting out easy, and register before you text in bulk.
A customer who already paid you is the cheapest sale you will ever make. Follow-up keeps you in mind. Do it right, because the rules are real.
Texts Need Consent
The FCC bans texts sent with an autodialer unless the person agreed first. Commercial, sales type texts require written consent, and that can be a website form or a keypress. People can opt out any time, in any reasonable way, even after saying yes.
Register Before You Text From Software
If you send texts from an app or software on a regular 10 digit number, you must register for A2P 10DLC. Registration means less filtering and more messages delivered.
Emails Have Rules Too
The CAN-SPAM Act says no false headers, no deceptive subject lines, identify ads as ads, include your physical address, explain how to opt out and honor opt outs promptly. Each email that breaks the law can cost up to $53,088.
What to Send
A thank you the day after the job. A check in when the next service is due. A short note before a holiday rush. Useful beats loud.
